Area’s Largest Boat Show Offers Summer Fun in the Middle of Winter—Hundreds of Boats and Accessories for Sale, In-Water Learning and Attractions for All Ages, including “Swamp People”

Baltimore, MD  – Beginner boaters, skilled skippers and fun-seeking families looking for the best in boating and a day away from the woes of winter can climb aboard hundreds of boats and celebrate summer at the 2014 Progressive Insurance Baltimore Boat Show. The Baltimore Convention Center transforms into a boater’s paradise January 23-26, celebrating 60 years with the newest boats, nautical gadgets and gear for sale, plus a chance for marine enthusiasts of all ages to get their hands dirty and feet wet with a variety of interactive seminars and family entertainment including meet-and-greets with History Channel TV stars and a kids’ fly casting competition.

Super Sales on Watercrafts and Accessories for Every Budget and Lifestyle:
The Progressive Insurance Baltimore Boat Show fills the Baltimore Convention Center with hundreds of boats from the Mid-Atlantic’s leading dealers and manufacturers. Compare hundreds of boats from luxury cruisers and fishing boats to family runabouts and pontoons, plus shop deals on the latest marine gadgets and gear including navigation systems, fishing gear, fish finders and water sports accessories.

Family Fun and Entertainment:
The Progressive Insurance Baltimore Boat Show is making a big splash with family-friendly activities for all ages.

Get on the water indoors! The 50 foot long “SIMUL-CAST” Pond: Visitors can practice fly fishing and casting techniques, kayaking, and stand-up paddle boarding under the guidance of pros in American Fly Fishing School’s 50 foot by 50 foot pond.

Special Appearance by R.J. and Jay Paul Molinere, Stars of History Channel’s Hit TV Show Swamp People: Visitors can meet father and son alligator hunters R.J. and Jay Paul Molinere from History Channel’s hit show Swamp People. R.J. and Jay Paul, active members of the Louisiana state-recognized tribe United Houma Nation, share their stories as ‘swampers’ whose survival is dependent upon the 30-day alligator hunting season along the southeastern coast of  Louisiana.

Appearance schedule: Thursday, January 23, 5pm–7pm; Friday, January 24, 1pm–3pm and 5pm–7pm; and Saturday, January 25, 11am–1pm and 2pm–4pm
Kids’ Competition and Family Fun: New this year and taking advantage of the 50-foot “SIMULCAST” pond is the Kids Fly Casting Competition (for aspiring fisherman ages 10-17) on Sunday, January 26, from 10:30am–2pm. Previous experience fly casting is not necessary and all equipment is provided. Kids can pre-register and practice at the pond on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. All contestants will win a hand-tied fly prize and up to five winners will win premium prizes for their performance.
Kids can build a one-of-a-kind vessel using pieces of wood, a little glue, and a lot of creativity at the Kids’ Create-a-Boat. Also making appearances are SpongeBob SquarePants andSteve Buckley, award-winning author of the Blackbear the Pirate adventure series. Steve will sign his books and lead kids in constructing their own pirate hats, coloring pages and reading books.
All-New Miss GEICO Offshore Race Boat: Visitors canget up close with one of the fastest 44-foot speedsters as it takes a pit stop on its route to record setting championship race wins. The all-new and much lighter Miss GEICO Race Boat is a neon green catamaran made of carbon/kevlar and powered by 1075 Mercury racing engines equipped for reaching speeds of up to 170 mph.

Prizes for Pickers: Crush the competition (and crustaceans!) in the 4th Annual Crab Pickin’ Contest on Sunday, January 26 at 3pm. Contestants will have seven minutes to pile up as much crab meat as possible to be eligible for a prize! One lucky show-goer will win a Pro Angler Hobie Kayak, compliments of Backyard Boats. Visitors can enter in the show lobby.
Safer, Smarter and Better Boating with Hands-on Instruction and Practice:
Boaters can boost their knowledge and skills with dozens of daily, free seminars and learning activities including. Advanced courses for experienced boaters are also available. Visit the show website for a complete schedule of educational offerings.

Fred’s Shed Interactive Learning Center: Visitors can watch, learn and do at Fred’s Shed, where certified marine technicians will provide practical advice for maintaining boats and motors. Free daily demonstrations, discussions, and hands-on clinics make Fred’s Shed a great boating resource, covering topics like keeping your boat ship shape, installing electronics and maintaining gas engines.
Daily Boating Education Sessions: Local experts from the Annapolis School of Seamanship will host informative and entertaining daily sessions that provide tips on handling onboard emergencies and getting a captain’s license.
Women at the Wheel: Women seeking the skills and confidence to safely and effectively take the helm can participate in this two-hour, women-only workshop by the Annapolis School of Seamanship on Saturday, January 25 from 9am–11:30am. Women will learn the fundamentals of docking, close quarters maneuvering, line handling and navigation from professional instructor captains.
ASOS Nautis Boating Simulator: Grab the helm of a virtual boat and experience basic boat handling right on the show floor! More experienced mariners are invited to pull off more complicated maneuvers as well as practice navigation and collision avoidance. The Nautis Simulator is provided by the Annapolis School of Seamanship.
